Impact on the environment

An increasing awareness of the impact of travel on climate change has led to a sensible reduction in unnecessary travel whether it be train, car, rail or flight. The trend in learning and development provisioning mirrors the trend in how work is being conducted. The profession of software delivery is now taking place in a wide array of distributed arrangements, with increasingly sophisticated solutions to the problems of not being co-located.

For one multinational organization who uses our LVC training, we calculated they saved in excess of 470,000 miles travelled, which would have generated approximately 95 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
This it the first true LVC I've attended and i was impressed at how well it was run and there was good use of technology such as breakout rooms and polls

Impact on People

A common problem when dealing with global organizations is that the teams are split across multiple territories. LVC provides a tool to cohesively work with these teams to provide consistent training.

The impact of introducing live virtual classrooms is that a significantly higher number of delegates have the opportunity to benefit from live training who may not be able to attend a physical location.

Efficacy of LVC training

To compare the efficacy of LVC and face to face training we have analysed the training results taken from our extensive course surveys over a two year period. To illustrate the efficacy of LVC training, we have taken the results from Scrum.org’s Professional Scrum series of courses. Our results are based on the feedback from over 100 courses and more than 1,200 delegates.

We ask delegates whether they would recommend the training course to a colleague on a sliding scale. The results are comparable, with both averaging a 4.5/5 star rating.

How was the learning Environment

The learning environment can have a dramatic effect upon the learning outcomes for any delegate. This is as important in traditional classrooms as it is for virtual training and even the tiniest discomfort or inconvenience can detract from learning outcomes. Surprisingly for some, the virtual environment comes out slightly better in this regard, with 95% of delegates giving it a 5+ star rating, compared to 92% for the traditional classroom.

Pace of course comparisons

How was the pace of the course?

When we ask about the pace of a training course, we want to know that we are moving through the course that allows delegates to absorb new ideas as well as keeping them engaged. Clearly, in any training course we can have a mix of learning styles and starting points in knowledge, so there will always be variation. Encouragingly, in both environments, trainers are effective at finding the right pace, with 95% of delegates judging the pace to be just right for LVC, compared to 96% in the traditional classroom.
Finally, we want to know how well the trainer delivered the course and how well they responded to questions. Both assessed on a scale of 1-7, LVC training again compares well to traditional training. When asked “how well did the trainer deliver the course”, 98% of our delegates provided a 5+ star rating for LVC compared to 96% for the traditional classroom. And for “how well did the trainer respond to your questions”, 99% of our delegates judged this to be 5+ stars for LVC compared to 89% for the traditional approach. It would seem, therefore, that trainers are able to achieve good engagement and respond well to the specific needs of the individual delegate.
